Compostable and biodegradable are not interchangeable
“Biodegradable” on its own does not tell a buyer the disposal conditions or timescale. A compostability claim needs a stated environment and applicable evidence. Industrial compostability must not be presented as home compostability.
Check the complete cup-and-lid combination
Request the certificate holder, product reference, permitted construction and validity. Confirm the cup lining, printing and any lid separately. A resin certificate or a paper-straw certificate does not establish certification of a finished drinking cup.
Match the claim to your collection system
Ask your local waste operator whether the specified packaging is accepted. Neither a paper appearance nor a certification mark guarantees a collection route in every location. Use only the environmental statements supported for the ordered item and destination.
